Established in 1964, Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is one of the nation’s oldest city-owned nature centers and serves to preserve and protect North Texas ecosystems while offering visitors educational and recreational opportunities to discover its natural beauty.

As soon as visitors step through the doors of the Nature Center, they are welcomed by an abundance of diverse habitats – forests, wetlands, prairies and marshes – which together support an incredible variety of plant and animal species – making this an excellent site for wildlife observation and ecological discovery.

The Nature Center boasts an expansive network of well-maintained trails that wind through various habitats, offering opportunities for hiking, nature walks and wildlife spotting. Each trail provides its own special experience – hikers may see white-tailed deer, raccoons, armadillos, various bird species and even an occasional bobcat or coyote!

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is an oasis for birdwatchers. Home to over 240 bird species documented within its boundaries, the refuge has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area (IBA).
